March Madness is not just for basketball – At least not at the Red Brick Tavern in Athens, Ohio!

For 4 straight Wednesday nights, things got seriously heated at Red Brick Tavern as Wings Over hosted Meltdown Madness, a bracket-style hot wing eating competition that pushed contestants to their limits and then kept going.
From March 18th through April 8th, the challenge was simple – Eat faster than everyone else and survive the heat.
The Setup
Each week, competitors checked in at 7pm, took a look at the bracket hanging behind the bar, and got ready to compete. By 7:30pm, it was game time.
The format followed a classic tournament structure:
- Week 1: Sweet 16 → Eight advanced to the next week
- Week 2: Elite 8 → Four advanced to the next week
- Week 3: Final 4 → Two advanced to the next week
- Week 4: Championship Round
The Heat Was No Joke
This was not your average wing night. Contestants had to make their way through a lineup that started bold and quickly turned into a full-on meltdown:
- Cajun Voodoo Classic Wings 🔥🔥
- Mango Meltdown Boneless Wings 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
- Afterburner Tenders 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
To be clear, Mango Meltdown and Afterburner are two of the hottest sauces on our menu. These are not sauces you casually try, they are sauces you commit to.
The goal was to finish everything as fast as possible and somehow, a couple competitors absolutely flew through it. A few had it down to around two minutes to clear their trays. Blink and it was over!
The Competitors Brought It
The bracket was stacked with personalities.
Fan favorites included:
- Feral Carol
- Evan the Destroyer
- Furious George
Every week had its moments. Some competitors came in confident and got humbled fast. Others stayed quiet and just kept chowing.
By the time the Final 4 rolled around, the energy inside Red Brick Tavern was loud. Every bite counted and the crowd felt it.
The Final Showdown
After three weeks of heat and chaos, it came down to two finalists:
Gab vs. Dor
Both had already proven they could handle the spice and the pressure. This last round was all about speed.
When it started, it was fast. Really fast, but in the end, Gab powered through, finished strong, and claimed the Meltdown Madness Champion title. Check out our socials to see the highlights!
Until Next Time
Four weeks, a lot of chicken, and a lot of heat. Athens showed up and proved one thing. This town can handle the spice. Think you can do better? We’ll find out next time 🔥
